1 tsp cinnamon
1/2tspnutmeg
1pinchsalt
1packagepuff pastry
1egg yolk
caramel syrup for serving
Instructions
Remove the puff pastry from the freezer and defrost according to the package directions.
Once the puff pastry has defrosted, unfold it and remove the paper. Cut it in half to form two rectangles and place on a parchment lined baking sheet. Place back in freezer until after you are done prepping the apples.
Core and thinly slice the apples in uniform slices - about 1/4" thick. Place in a bowl and add the brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and pinch of salt. Stir together and allow to sit while you preheat the oven and prep the puff pastry.
Preheat the oven to 425 degrees fahrenheit.
Remove the puff pastry from the freezer and make your egg wash. Combine one egg yolk with 1 tsp water. Whisk to combine and brush the puff pastry all over.
Score the edges of the puff pastry about 3/4" away from the edge. Don't cut all the way through. This will allow the puff pastry to create a nice even crust.
Now, arrange the apples on the puff pastry rectangles in even lines, layering as you go. Place in preheated oven and bake for 20-22 minutes until the crust is golden brown.
Remove from the oven and drizzle with caramel sauce.
